Now that another year in this long-standing franchise has tipped off, players around the world are looking to use the NBA 2K25 face scan feature to fully customize their MyPLAYER. While this is still for MyCAREER and The W like previous years, you'll also be able to use a face scan in MyGM. If the NBA 2K25 face scan isn't working for you, we'll go over some potential solutions that might fix things for you.
How to Fix Unable to Find Head Scan Data in NBA 2K25
The NBA 2K25 face scan feature allows players to use their phone to upload a replication of your own face onto an in-game MyPLAYER model. The first thing you need to do is download the MyNBA 2K Companion App via your phone's app store.
In previous years they would release a new app for each new game, but since NBA 2K23 things have been combined into the same app. This is the most likely reason you might be running into an "unable to find head scan data" message despite having just completed a head scan in the app.
Open your MyNBA 2K Companion App and check top right corner to confirm which game version is listed. If the top right says NBA 2K24 or NBA 2K23, it's attempting to upload your face scan data to those older version of the game. Tap on it and select NBA 2K25, after which you'll need to log back in with your platform.
After you're sure it's on NBA 2K25 and have completed a face scan, it should give you an "Upload Successful" message to indicate the data has transferred. You may immediately be able to pull head scan data, but we recommend uploading and then waiting at least a minute or two before tapping "Check for Head Scan Data" in NBA 2K25.
If it's still not working, you also want to ensure the login you used on the app is the same as your current platform and that it's the same email for that account. If you log in to the wrong account, the data won't transfer properly to your platform. If your NBA 2K25 face scan still isn't working after verifying these details, you may want to check server status or submit a support ticket to 2K about the issue.
Advancements in accuracy are made each year, but it's still a very finicky system that can easily run into issues. It's best to use a neutral and plain background which gives a solid contrast to your own face, as this will help the app differentiate things better. Make sure you've got the best lighting possible, and try to move very slowly when doing the face scan. If your NBA 2K25 face scan still has issues, some players have found just trying multiple times can sometimes cause the scan to come in more accurately on another attempt.
