Each year brings new ways to innovate and expand how players can dive into the biggest basketball simulation game on the planet, and NBA 2K24 MyTEAM is now going mobile. While NBA 2K24 has been available for a few months now, MyTEAM is primed to get a whole new twist on things.
However, NBA 2K24 MyTEAM mobile is only going to launch in Canada. It seems like an odd choice, but the reality is this likely only the next step in a growing mobile push from 2K games. Get ready for the microtransactions to be truly inescapable.
NBA 2K24 MyTEAM app is Canada exclusive (for now)
If you've ever been out and about only to notice a new MyTEAM pack dropped or a new event, NBA 2K24 MyTEAM mobile provides a new way for players to play via their iOS or Android devices. Launching on December 12, this new NBA 2K24 MyTEAM app is only available in Canada. The news was announced in the NBA 2K discord, and they've created a new MyTEAM-Mobile channel in Discord to discuss the app.
When one fan asked why it was exclusive to Canada, a 2K account confirmed they "hope to bring this to more regions in the future." By keeping the game region-locked to Canada, 2K gets to test things out with a smaller player base and less intense server load. While they've connected with the NBA 2K Companion App before, interactive synced gameplay like this is a new challenge.
They are allowing players to play NBA 2K24 MyTEAM mobile regardless of whether they own the full game, but to sync cross-progression you have to sign in with a PlayStation or Xbox account right away rather than later on. Some players have attempted using a VPN and Google Play account set to Canada to gain access, but it's unclear if that's actually working for anyone.
If this testing phase goes well, we could see them launch NBA 2K24 MyTEAM mobile in the US and other regions in a few months. NBA 2K25 announcements aren't expected until June or July, so they may test the waters in the waning months of NBA 2K24 when the player base is less significant so some bugs can be worked out before next year's launch closes in.
