Marvel Studios' first film of 2024 has arrived in theatres globally as audiences are rushing to get tickets for the opening weekend of Deadpool & Wolverine. As the superhero studio is making its presence felt at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, many are keeping off social media to avoid any potential spoilers leaking online, which we highly recommend.
But as expected, fans are discussing online whether, with the reintroduction of these iconic characters into the MCU, they should remain seated once the credits have finished rolling. Without divulging into spoiler territory, we answered whether Deadpool & Wolverine contain a post-credit scene and what the film's release could mean for the MCU's future.
Writer's Note: With Deadpool & Wolverine hitting theatres globally on 26th July 2024, we will not be discussing major plot points, characters, and the contents of the post-credit scene as we would want audiences to enjoy this experience in person. We will update this page to fully explain the film's post-credit post release.
Does Deadpool & Wolverine Have A Post-Credit Scene?
The short and straightforward answer is yes; the latest Marvel Studios film, Deadpool & Wolverine, contains a post-credit scene for audiences to stick around for. This latest MCU offering marks Deadpool and Wolverine's official debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which became possible following the Disney/Fox merger in 2017, as the rights of several Marvel IPs, including the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool owned by Disney.
As explained in our disclaimer, we won't be detailing the contents of what is featured in said scene, according to various reports. Additionally, there are a few surprises reportedly for Marvel fans as the credits roll, which we advise keeping an eye out for as it's being reported to be nostalgic but might allude to what may be next for Marvel Studios and the MCU.
What Deadpool & Wolverine Could Mean For The MCU Going Forward?
Given the success of Marvel Studios Animation's recent project, X-Men '97, and the closing moments of Ms. Marvel, it's entirely possible that the MCU's next saga might heavily focus on the Mutants. While nothing has been officially confirmed as the MCU is currently in Phase 5 of the Multiverse Saga, in which Deadpool & Wolverine are part of its development schedule, it almost feels possible that once the dust settles on the Multiverse Saga, the Mutant Saga may be another critical success for Marvel Studios.
One TikTok user ran with this idea in a video that "pitched" what Phase 7 could look like, highlighting key sequels for multiple heroes with connections with the Mutants or focusing on Mutant characters instead. Given the timing of Deadpool and Wolverine's official debut in the MCU, Marvel Studios will need a bigger story to shift its focus, one that has plenty of history, characters, and unfinished stories to resolve in light of recent hits and misses within the Multiverse Saga.
Having already introduced audiences to a few mutants in the MCU thus far, it's the best and most natural direction for the superhero studio to pivot to when it's officially set in stone. As of writing, when Marvel Studios will announce the MCU's next saga is unknown, but with their presence confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 and the upcoming D23 event in August 2024, we may be given some hints or breadcrumbs on what's next for the MCU.
