Rumors have speculated that Marvel Studios is set to reveal a trailer for the next Captain America film this July, despite claims that it will arrive on 11th July 2024. While the timing may have been near accurate, the superhero studio finally premiered the trailer more than three years later, which catches up with Sam Wilson sometime following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth film for the titular superhero, with Sam Wilson taking up the mantle as he did in the comics, but with more villains and threats to face. The film is scheduled to release in February 2025 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase 5 slate after being pushed back from its original release date of 26th July 2024, which now belongs to Deadpool & Wolverine.
Although the time between The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Brave New World isn't outlined yet, what we do know is that Sam Wilson is Captain America in his next outing. The teaser trailer shows Wilson meeting with the "newly-elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross," a role which will now be played by Indiana Jones and Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford.
Wilson and Ross have encountered each other previously, the last time being during the events of the Civil War, when Wilson was arrested and held at the Raft for aiding Steve Rogers. How times have changed (have they) as Ross wants to start afresh with Wilson by making Cap "an official military position," which Wilson questions what could happen should he decline.
Unfortunately, things go awry when Wilson is thrust into a "Brave New World" when an overseas incident involving Isaiah Bradley as Wilson undertakes this new yet dangerous mission to learn the truth behind Bradley's actions. Joining Wilson on this perilous investigation is Joaquin Torres, whom audiences were first introduced to in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Sam's new eyes in the sky as he straps on the Falcon wings in this spy thriller superhero film, which echoes tones from The Winter Soldier film.
The film marks the return of Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America and also stars Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, who'll take up the Falcon mantle, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore and Ford as the aforementioned Thaddeus Ross and his comic counterpart, the Red Hulk. Captain America: Brave New World will now be released in theatres worldwide on 14th February 2025, and we'll likely hear more about the film at San Diego Comic-Con in August 2024.
