A brand new week eyes a new card release alongside the launch of a new limited-time game mode, High Voltage, for some electrifying plays and nailbiting moments to happen. Scorn is making its in-game debut as one of two card releases for the new week, alongside Agony, the latter of which can be earned from the High Voltage game mode.
Nevertheless, Snappers have eagerly awaited Scorn's arrival as many cited how it could change the Discard archetype, leaving opponents reeling, but is the card worth getting? This guide focuses on everything we know about Scorn, like its card mechanics, key synergies, best counters, and three unique Discard decks to try in its release week for Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Scorn Card Abilities Explained
The Symbiote Scorn joins other noted allies and villains in Marvel Snap as part of the current "We Are Venom" season as the latest card release. Within Marvel Comics, this symbiote took a host of Tanis Nevies after Carnage was ripped in half and survived before landing on Earth, where a doctor had discovered it.
Bringing Carnage to Shriek to keep the symbiote alive, Nevies used the symbiote to devise prosthetic limbs and exoskeleton suits before equipping one to herself before bonding to her following an attack, thus becoming Scorn. Scorn is quite powerful when it fuses or bonds with technology; this ability is mimicked in Marvel Snap, which could see itself empowering one key deck archetype.
At release, Scorn will launch as a one-Cost and two-Power card with a Common Ability that, when discarded, it will return to the player's hand, gaining +2 Power and giving another card in play +2 Power. Scorn may share some similarities with another popular Discard card in Apocalypse; however, the difference is that Scorn doesn't need to be played if they have the right cards to keep discarding this card to gain power.
Likewise, Scorn makes it more accessible in distributing power across the board; deckbuilding must be tailored to ensure that Scorn can continuously gain power using key synergies. However, Scorn is quite challenging to counter directly as it's more than likely to remain in players' hand or be played out on the final turn (Turn 6 or & if Magik is played), so instead, they must look to cards that are on the board to counter plays.
Shadow King is one of the best Discard counters, which reset cards' Power to their original value, while Red Guardian can remove abilities from key cards like Morbius, The Collector, and Dracula; Shang-Chi can destroy high-Powered Discard cards, like Morbius and The Collector, while Goose and Cosmo can prevent specific cards from being played at different locations. Snappers interested in adding Scorn to their Collection can acquire the card from the Spotlight Caches during its release week or purchase it through the Token Shop for 6,000 Collector's Tokens.
Best Marvel Snap Scorn Decks: Daken At Midnight
Scorn's arrival to Marvel Snap means we'll see plenty of unique Discard decks; for this deck guide, we'll spotlight three distinct decks featuring cards that synergize with Scorn. As mentioned, we'll likely expect to see some key counters during Scorn's release. We'll look at four significant card synergies for Scorn and feature them in decks, with the first card being Morbius.
While we're not looking to spotlight fairly standard or traditional Discard decks, we've turned our attention to underutilized cards like Daken in this scornful take on the Daiken Discard deck. This new version of the Daken Discard deck from Marvel Snap content creator DenHearthstone sees Morbius, Dracula, and Apocalypse as core cards to set up their strategies and locations once key cards get on the board.
Blade will target the rightmost card in the hand, ideally the Muramasa Shard, Swarm, Proxima Midnight, and Apocalypse should be the best targets, and similarly for Colleen Wing but more specifically on the Muramasa Shard and Swarm. Ensure that Dracula is on board once M.O.D.O.K. enters the hand, which, once played, has the Swarm cards onboard before the match ends so that Dracula can trigger its ability and target Apocalypse.
Best Marvel Snap Scorn Decks: No, You Discard Your Cards!
The next significant card synergies for Scorn, which our following spotlight deck features upfront and center, are Dracula and Apocalypse, but with a slight tweak, as we'll not be looking to discard our cards but our opponent's instead. This iteration of the Dracula Discard deck comes from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh, who pairs Scorn and Dracula with a few other synergies.
The aim is to have their opponent discard cards from their hand, but the key cards for this deck that can achieve this are Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, and Black Bolt to discount Stature to be played on the next turn. Grand Master can be factored into this deck and played at Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, or Black Bolt's location for another chance to discard a card from their hand.
Alternatively, Misery can be played in place of Grand Master to discard more cards from their opponent's hands before destroying them. While the purpose is to discard their opponent's cards, Blade and Gambit are included to discard Scorn, Swarm, and Apocalypse before Dracula gains Scorn's or Apocalypse's power at the end of the game (just be sure to play all the Swarm cards).
Best Marvel Snap Scorn Decks: Exodia Sans Apocalypse
So, we've featured Morbius, Dracula, and Apocalypse in two unique Discard decks, which means it's down to our final synergistic card for Scorn in The Collector. Typically, The Collector would be paired with Morbius, Dracula, and Apocalypse, but this deck doesn't feature any of these cards as the main intent is to clear their opponent's board.
That's the playstyle of Exodia decks, which pairs Wong, Mystique, Grand Master, Absorbing Man, and Odin with Gambit to completely decimate their opponent's play without having Morbius, Dracula, and Apocalypse. This Exodia deck from Marvel Snap content creator ItsGuestGaming features the aforementioned Wong, Mystique, Absorbing Man, and Odin, which can be hidden behind Invisible Woman for a devastating reveal at the end of the game.
So what can one play that doesn't need to be hidden behind Invisible Woman will rely on Colleen Wing to discard Scorn or Swarm, which, having Magik, can extend the match and give them more time to set up their Wong/Mystique combo. Once the Wong/Mystique and Gambit combo is revealed behind Invisible Woman, this will power The Collector, which should be in play as it will destroy their opponent's cards while discarding Scorn and Swarm in the process.
