"The Amazing Spider-Season" is almost over as the last card release has web-swinged his way to the popular card battler Marvel Snap. With the next season fast approaching, Benjamin "Ben" Reilly is using his Spidey Senses to join fellow Spider-people, like Madame Web and Araña, in an epic team-up to counter their opponents and secure them a victory.
Granted, Reilly has quite a complicated yet intriguing backstory, yet he forged his superhero path along with an iconic Spider Suit even when he donned the Spider-Man on a handful of occasions. This guide compiles what we know about the Scarlet Spider, including explaining the card's in-game abilities, key synergies, counters, and deckbuilding ideas to try in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Scarlet Spider Card Abilities Explained
Ben Reilly had a somewhat gloomy backstory as the exact clone of one Peter Parker, created by Miles Warren "in a misguided effort" to seek and destroy the "Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man." Unfortunately for Warren, Reilly became a superhero in his own right, using his webbing powers and abilities to save those in need until he adopted a heroic costume and moniker as the Scarlet Spider, who'll be swinging into action in Marvel Snap.
With that said, the Scarlet Spider will debut in Marvel Snap as a four-Cost and five-Powered card and becomes the second officially released card (after Symbiote Spider-Man) to launch with the Activate mechanic. Once in play, Scarlet Spider adds an "exact clone" of himself to another location when activated; however, the location to which the clone is added may be random.
Upon its in-game debut, players can acquire the Scarlet in one of two ways: by using their Spotlight Keys toward the caches, hoping to get the card. Alternatively, if they wish to hold onto their keys, they can spend 6,000 Collector's Tokens via the Token Shop in-game to grab the card and add it to their Collection.
Best Marvel Snap Scarlet Spider Decks: The Patriot Scarlet Spider
One of the biggest issues facing Scarlet Spider (and its clone) is the window of opportunity to play this card, especially since it is a four-Cost card drop, as it tends to be less flexible, and the only way to increase its winning potential is to bolster it with other cards, or abilities. The best way is to buff the card's power before being played, and several cards can achieve this, like Araña, Nova (with either Carnage or Killmonger), Forge, Hulk Buster, Okoye, Nakia, Gwenpool, Shuri, and Blue Marvel, to name.
As buffing Scarlet Spider and its clone's power is central to maximizing the card's potential, we can look toward building decks around the card and a few others that also benefit from this power buff. This first superpowered deck from Marvel Snap content creator ItsGuestGaming has this notion in mind by pairing power buffing cards like Araña, Forge, and Patriot with Scarlet Spider as ways of increasing the card's power beyond five before it's played and activated.
Other cards that also produce copies or clones that can also benefit from these power buffing cards have been included to give players alternative strategies in case Scarlet Spider is still in the deck by Turn 4 or 5, like Brood and Ultron, with Absorbing Man highly likely targeting Brood at another location. Having Ravonna Renslayer helps players get Mystique, Patriot, Iron Man, and Arnim Zola out one turn earlier to set up locations further once Dazzler and Scarlet Spider are onboard, with the latter being activated to add a clone to a random location.
Best Marvel Snap Scarlet Spider Decks: Scarlet Sands
Another aspect to consider regarding playing Scarlet Spider is that the card and clone produced could benefit from various locations like Aunt May's and Muir Island that can give cards power or restrictive locations like Sanctum Sanctorum, Flooded, or Luke's Bar. With this in mind, does Scarlet Spider fare well in lockdown and control decks? This is a question that can be answered in a Sandman control deck.
If you hate sand, this deck will likely get sand everywhere with this control deck from Marvel Snap content creator Docty. Much like the Patriot deck we've highlighted previously, the inclusion of Araña, Patriot, and Blue Marvel will help buff Scarlet Spider's power before being activated.
Having Symbiote Spider-Man in this deck can be utilized to activate Scarlet Spider and produce another clone at a location to get buffed by Blue Marvel or activate once Sandman is in play. This move will ensure that players take advantage of Scarlet Spider's Activate ability while controlling their opponent's play on the last turn and guarantee that they will play Doctor Doom or Ultron to help Dazzler gain the power buff.
Best Marvel Snap Scarlet Spider Decks: Scarlet Zoo
Unironically, the last deck we spotlighted is quite unexpected as it has gained popularity following Gilgamesh and Marvel Boy's releases. Yes, Scarlet Spider being factored into a Zoo deck is a pretty wild and surprising development that can be quite effective to play as it helps fill locations with as many cards as possible and for them to be potential targets for Blue Marvel.
Players can have a field day with this zoo-tastic deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh, which pairs some interesting cards that synergize quite well with Scarlet Spider. Firstly, it's important to note that Scarlet Spider will also contribute to triggering Mockingbird's ability when activated along with Shanna the She-Devil, with Ant-Man, Dazzler, Mojo, and Ms. Marvel all helping with buffing locations, although the latter does have a condition to meet.
Although we could suggest swapping out either Dazzler or Mojo for Marvel Boy to buff the one-Cost cards generated from Shanna, Nocturne could help with location issues (Magik is an alternative to Nocturne), and Gilgamesh to help gain priority if Blue Marvel is in play. Alioth is a wild card inclusion in a Zoo deck, but with Mockingbird discounted for less Energy, this should make it prime to play Alioth if they have priority on the last turn to target potential counters like Shang-Chi or prevent abilities from triggering like Ultron's drones.
