The Thunderbolts are making their way to Marvel Snap in the latest season, April 2024, with plans of overtaking equally powerful teams like the Avengers. Six new cards will arrive in-game throughout the season, and General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross / Red Hulk is one of two cards added to the game in the first week.
Much like Baron Zemo, this character has been given some screentime in the MCU, but will it outshine some powerful cards in-game? In this guide, we've discussed Red Hulk's car abilities and some of the best cards and decks synergizing with Red Hulk in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Red Hulk Card Abilities Explained
General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who has a respectable and proud reputation as a military man, is ready to hulk his way to Marvel Snap in the April 2024 season. The Red Hulk is the first season drop for this season, and those lucky enough to acquire the card can take advantage of its power-gaining ability to make one hulkin' play.
Red Hulk is a six-cost, 11-Powered card that can feed Red Hulk's power needs if the card is in play or their hand. As such, if their opponent ends a turn with energy unspent or used, Red Hulk gains +4 Power, which is quite similar to Evolved Hulk's ability.
The only way Red Hulk will get a bump in Power is if their opponent doesn't spend all their energy each turn for Red Hulk to add +4 Power to its existing Power stat. Something to note about Red Hulk, seen during the Developer Update video for the new season, is that if they or their opponent has Red Hulk in their hand, the card will appear on-screen with its new power gain akin to how Apocalypse gains its Power.
Players wanting to add Red Hulk to their collection can acquire it from the Spotlight Caches, as these keys can be obtained through the Collection Level after every 120 levels. In addition, if they cannot get it from the Spotlight Caches in time, it will be available from the in-game Shop for 6,000 Collector's Tokens.
Best Marvel Snap Red Hulk Card Decks: Evo Sees Red
Of course, Red Hulk will find its way into a High Evolutionary deck, which is expected since early datamines of the card started circulating online. This updated variation of the high-EV deck from ItsGuestGaming swaps out The Infinaut to make Red Hulk find its spot in this deck to maximize power priority at various locations.
While Shang-Chi may be a downside to playing this deck, their opponent can only play Shang-Chi at one location if Absorbing Man is played the following turn or Arnim Zola copies it at other locations. If this is a potential play, they will have a few turns to eventually play Shang-Chi, in which players can play other cards for She-Hulk, Hulk, and Red Hulk to have their abilities triggered before being played in the last two turns.
Red Hulk's inclusion into High EV decks does remove The Infinaut's presence due to Red Hulk's more consistent ability to gain Power. Another aspect is the card's viability, as it can be played on Turn 6 when they had played the previous turn.
Best Marvel Snap Red Hulk Card Decks: The Big Red Machine
Fresh from its release a week before Red Hulk's release, War Machine has another potential deck for players to try by pairing it up with Shuri and Red Hulk. This deck from ItsGuestGaming features The Infinaut due to Blob also added to this deck and to ensure Blob gains its Power when merged.
The main strategy is to either play Magik or Hope Summers on Turn 3 before Shuri is added to the board before missing a turn or play either Red Hulk or The Infinaut into Taskmaster. Another great play is securing a location with Armor before playing Magik or Hope Summers into Shuri, then Supergiant and Blob or Taskmaster, which, if the latter occurs, Blob is played before Taskmaster is revealed to set its Power of the last card they played.
Best Marvel Snap Red Hulk Card Decks: Red Hulkin' Lockjaw
Perhaps a really effective way to include Red Hulk in decks is to add the card to Discard decks, more specifically, the HelaLockjaw deck. It's more consistent, especially if Red Hulk gets discarded when Black Knight is played for the Ebony Blade to acquire its Power.
Marvel Snap content creator Safety Blade compiled this deck and will almost certainly be the deck many players will see in Friendly and Conquest battles as it ensures players don't have to play the card on Turn 6 if discarded, as Hela will resurrect it. It also prevents Red Hulk from being destroyed by Shang-Chi, but it will gain Power before it's discarded and brought back into the game end match.
Lockjaw will rotate much of the deck around, which may cause some issues if Hela gets played too early if she's not in their hand. As we've previously discussed, they'll need to contend with one of their six-cost cards getting destroyed by Shang-Chi, which should allow them to play Hela or another viable card like Magneto to guarantee a victory screen.
