Oh, do spare us the pain and misery we'll bring upon our opponents as the next card release, Misery, looks to add more despair to matches in Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap's October 2024 season coincides with the game's second anniversary, which developer Second Dinner has plenty of celebrations in store for Snappers throughout the month. However, one new card release may cause significant pain and suffering as their inclusion could make Snappers more miserable than ever once it's played.

The "We Are Venom" season welcomes Misery as the next card drop for the popular card battler, which comes with a niched ability that might be a little miserable to deal with. So wipe those tears as we've crammed everything we know about the latest venomized card, Misery, including what its abilities do, key synergies, possible counters, and three spotlighted decks to try in Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Misery Card Abilities Explained

Another Symbiote in Misery will be joining comrades like Carnage and Anti-Venom in Marvel Snap's "We Are Venom" season this October. First debuting in the Cult of Carnage comic series in 2023, Misery was created as a result of Alchemax's experiments, which saw a sample of the Carnage strain that was bonded to a chimpanzee, who was exposed to the Anti-Venom serum; this hybrid symbiote became exposed once again to Elizabeth "Liz" Allan thus creating Misery in its wake and now it will be heading to Marvel Snap for more carnage.

Following the weekly reset, Misery will be available as a 4-Cost and 7-Power card at release, which comes with a rather miserable ability that may be a massive advantage to Snappers but not so much for their opponents. As Misery possesses abilities and powers of both Carnage and Anti-Venom, the card, too, has hybrid capabilities, as once it's in play, it will repeat the On Reveal abilities only of cards at their location before destroying them.

Misery can be viewed as a Nico Minoru/Odin hybrid as Minoru has a spell that can destroy the next played card, which, combined with Odin's ability as less Cost and Power, does provide some unique strategies coming into play, especially if they want to protect specific key On Reveal cards. While it may have some drawbacks, some interesting deck ideas floating around could utilize a mini-Odin card, aside from Destroy decks.

Nevertheless, Snappers eyeing on bringing some Misery to their opponents can acquire the card in-game from the Token Shop by spending 6,000 Collector's Tokens. However, if they want to reserve their precious resources, they can alternatively spend Spotlight Keys to unlock caches in the hopes of getting Misery in two keys or less (fingers crossed)!

Best Marvel Snap Misery Decks: Death, Destroy & Misery

Could Misery find her way to synergize well with the ever popular Destroy deck archetype? (Picture: Untapped.gg)

There are a few key deck archetypes that will greatly benefit from Misery's inclusion and immediately, the first being Destroy. Destroy has become incredibly powerful despite new card releases and nerfs/buffs to specific cards that haven't slowed it down, and this may not be the case this season.

By playing the right On Reveal cards, this Destroy deck may help Snappers climb through the ladder or reach Infinity in Conquest, which is a new take on the Deadpool Destroy deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh. While the aim is to destroy cards to power Knull, Misery can only target On Reveal cards, of which the key cards are Carnage, Killmonger, Venom, Deathlok, and Arnim Zola, as Hulk Buster will likely be played out to power Deadpool, X-23, or another card of their choosing.

One key issue is the potential of Misery destroying Venom, which is an essential card to play, especially when it consumes a discounted Death into Arnim Zola for copies of Venom to appear at other locations. While this will significantly grow Knull's power, the upside is that it could be a counter to Shang-Chi by quickly eliminating any high-Powered On Reveal cards before Shang-Chi, but we have yet to see if it synergizes better with Destroy than Attuma.

Best Marvel Snap Misery Decks: Milling For Some Misery

Mill and Clog decks may feel the love with some Misery included in these decks. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

As Misery will repeat the On Reveal abilities before destroying the On Reveal cards, there are specific card combinations and synergies outside the Destroy archetype that Snappers haven't considered due to the confusion surrounding the card's ability. Some good card synergies for Misery include The Hood, Iceman, Yondu, White Widow, Debrii, and Grand Master, which give rise to Clog and Mill decks, who will feel the love with Misery's inclusion in the game.

As such, we can expect to see Mill and Clog decks running wild in Misery's release decks; one strong deck idea comes to us courtesy of Marvel Snap content creator Docty. As explained before, following Baron Zemo's release, the primary strategy of the Mill deck is to deplete their opponent's deck either by stealing (Copycat), destroying (Yondu and Gladiator), or withdrawing (Cable and Baron Zemo) cards.

This deck is a hybrid of both the Destroy and Discard archetypes by having Yondu, Gladiator, and Shang-Chi out to destroy cards while Black Bolt will target the lowest Cost card in their opponent's hand and discard it, making it viable to play Stature. Cable and Baron Zemo will "steal" cards from their opponent's deck or hand, Magik can be utilized to extend the game, White Widow can secure location priority, and The Hood is a good target for Misery to destroy.

Best Marvel Snap Misery Decks: Activate Before Blinking, G-Man

If you thought going up against a Galactus deck was bad, through in Misery for added punishment. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

The last deck we've spotlighted looks at cards that Snappers would much prefer to be destroyed by Misery, the opposite of what we highlighted in the first deck. As the best strategy with Misery is to play it on Turn 4 or 5, not Turn 6, as it may be detrimental to their gameplay strategy, Snappers will want to make early plays with cards crucial to getting important cards out later.

Galactus feels like a natural home for Misery, which we saw an increased presence of the Devourer of Worlds thanks to Symbiote Spider-Man's release, and it may be coming back for more. This all-devouring deck from Marvel Snap content creator ItsGuestGaming finds a slot for Misery and synergizes it with key cards that may see Snappers playing Galactus much earlier for that surprise reveal.

The main strategy is to play out Electro or Wave into Misery to get that double Energy from Electro before Galactus is played or Wave into Misery for the same result. This should see them having Knull, a discounted Death, and Alioth as final turn plays, which the latter must be played if they have priority on Turn 6.
