The "War of the Nine Realms" season will see powerful heroes and villains across the realms to assist players in an epic battle for all ages in Marvel Snap. The next card release is an all-powerful villain who uses his highly adept sorcery abilities, great strength and resilience, and unwavering determination to bring calamity to Asgard and beyond.
Malekith, the Dark Elf of Svartalfheim, will be arriving shortly in-game, and players interested in bringing as much chaos to the game will want to be very strategic when synergizing some key allies to help them win the match (and the war). As such, this guide explains what there is to know about Malekith, including his card abilities, key synergies, top counters, and some decks to include him in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Malekith Card Abilities Explained
The Dark Elf of Svartalfheim, Malekith, is heading to Marvel Snap to wage war across the realms with powerful sorcery and calculated trickery in the "War of the Nine Realms" season. Players unfamiliar with the character can view some of the character's cunning ways, having appeared in Marvel Studios' Thor: The Dark World, but unlike his MCU counterpart, Malekith's full potential will finally be realized in-game.
Once the weekly refresh has hit Marvel Snap for mobile devices and PC, Malekith will officially release for the card battler as a four Power and six Cost card. Upon its release, this card is battle-ready with an On Reveal ability, which reads, "Add a 1, 2, or 3-Cost card from your deck here, but don't reveal it until the game ends."
This card's mechanics and key synergies are pretty good as it thins out players' decks, not their opponents, similar to Crystal and Jubilee, but the biggest benefit or appeal is that it increases players' chances of adding a high-cost card to their hand. This is extremely important for decks that rely heavily on these types of decks, like recently with the Big Cards decks with players playing high-powered cards following Surtur's release and, surprisingly, Tribunal decks.
Nevertheless, as we'll explain further Malekith's key synergies and counters in three unique decks to try, this insidious villain will be available in-game from the Spotlight Caches in its release week alongside Thena and Valentina. Alternatively, if they have some "loose change," they can purchase the card from the Token Shop for 6,000 Collector's Tokens, as it is a Series 5 card drop at launch.
Best Marvel Snap Malekith Decks: A Toxic Surprise
Based on its text description, Malekith will pull a one-, two-, or three-cost card from their deck onto the board and only play when the game ends. It's also been noted that the card Malekith pulls onto the board can be viewed by the player but not by their opponent; however, the card does possess some drawbacks, as it can make deckbuilding quite limited when specific cards with board-wide abilities like Silver Surfer and Spectrum can't hit specific targets that Malekith hides.
While high-impactful tech cards like Cosmo, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Red Guardian, and Alioth can easily counter Malekith, those that generate cards like Korg and Rockslide could clog up locations with rocks that may be key in securing location priority. Ideally, players will want to pair Malekith with a few powerful one-, two-, and three-Cost cards like the ones featured in this deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh.
This deck is specifically around the prospect of Hazmat being drawn by Malekith as players are guaranteed drawing Domino and, hopefully, Zabu to discount Iron Lad, Supergiant, Anti-Venom, and, of course, Malekith. Naturally, they'll want to have Zabu played before Malekith for the Hazmat to be drawn out, which, if not, can be hidden behind Supergiant for that game-end reveal.
Best Marvel Snap Malekith Decks: Malekith Power Trip
Continuing to echo how valuable Malekith is for highly powerful one-, two-, and three-cost cards, the card feels extremely synergistic with cards that provide power buffs to certain or all targets on board or in hand. While we've mentioned that it may make certain cards like Silver Surfer feel slightly less impactful if Malekith hides a key card, the opposite isn't true if Silver Silver is drawn and hidden, allowing players to set up locations for Silver Surfer to be revealed.
This is a strategy to consider for this power-buffing deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper, which synergizes power-buffing cards like Okoye, Patriot, Phastos, and Gwenpool with Silver Surfer with reliable targets featured. Nico Minoru can buff itself or another card but is flexible enough to duplicate a key card or change a location if needed.
Lastly, some great targets to pair up with the abovementioned cards include Mister Sinister, who generates a clone, Brood and its Broodlings, the Scarlet Spider and his clone, and Doctor Doom with his Doombots. Sebastian Shaw will ensure that vital location priority once Silver Surfer is on board, on revealed when the game ends, not buffs all three-Cost cards but especially Sebastian Shaw if Okoye and Gwenpool had buffed the card.
Best Marvel Snap Malekith Decks: Dark & Venomous
The final spotlighted deck pivots towards cards that can help build towards gaining power over time to gain location priority at key locations. Additionally, have a few tech cards to counter their opponents or what they may send over or destroy on your side of the board, like Rogue, Killmonger, and Shang-Chi.
The abovementioned cards, except for Shang-Chi, are also targets for Malekith, along with other featured cards in this deck from Marvel Snap content creator DDDrewsky. Cards like Kitty Pryde, Thena, Angela, Sage, and Hit-Monkey will ensure that they can ramp up power, while Agent Venom can do the same but with an added boost of setting all cards' power within the deck to 4.
Lastly, they'll have one of the featured one-, two-, or three-cost cards hidden by Malekith, which, ideally, either Rogue, Killmonger, or Hit-Monkey will benefit from a game-ending reveal. If it can be played in time, Sera will discount all cards, which can be extremely helpful in triggering Hit-Monkey if it wasn't drawn onto the board by Malekith.
