The latest season of Marvel Snap, Brave New World, welcomes valiant new heroes and nefarious villains to the popular card battler in this action-packed season. This season is a tie-in crossover with the upcoming Marvel Studios film Captain America: Brave New World, which sets the stage for the next hero to take on the Falcon mantle, Joaquin Torres.
MCU fans have been acquainted with the character in his previous outing, but what can they anticipate from Sam's new wingman in Marvel Snap? This airborne guide lays out the groundwork for what we know about Joaquin Torres / Falcon, including his card abilities, best synergies, and counters to pay attention to, and provides three decks to insert this winged hero in Marvel Snap!
Marvel Snap Joaquin Torres / Falcon Card Abilities Explained
Joining Sam Wilson / Captain America in the new season of Marvel Snap, Brave New World, is Sam's new wingman, the next character to inherit the Falcon mantle in Joaquin Torres. Much like his comic book counterpart, the character also crossed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character also crossed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier limited series, and will be taking to the skies for the first time as Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World and in Marvel Snap as the next card release.
Following its release, the Joaquin Torres / Falcon card launches as a three-Cost and four Power card, which he comes fully prepared for duty (or battle) with a unique card ability. According to its text description, this card has an Ongoing ability, which the On reveal abilities of any or all one-Cost cards at its location happens twice.
This card has some similarities with a similar Ongoing card: Wong, in which all On Reveal cards happen twice, which should help Snappers with deck building. This card also makes it another synergistic card for Moonstone, which could result in some chaotic plays and will reveal them in the spotlighted decks,
However, it can be countered by Rogue, Cosmo, Red Guardian, and Enchantress, which they should be on the lookout for, and Killmonger, which targets the one-Cost cards. As for acquisition, Joaquin Torres / Falcon can be obtained from the release week's Spotlight Caches using Spotlight Keys or spending 6,000 Collector's Tokens at the Token Shop.
Best Marvel Snap Joaquin Torres / Falcon Decks: Falcons On The Move
With the addition of Joaquin Torres / Falcon to Marvel Snap, it's important to mention that over 20 one-Cost cards can benefit from its repeating abilities (think Wong, Grandmaster, and Absorbing Man). However, the massive drawback is that most one-Cost cards are heavily underpowered, making this lane extremely weak to capitalize and, therefore, would require buffs from other cards like Marvel Boy, Ka-Zar, and Blue Marvel.
On the subject of power, Joaquin Torres has a unique yet strong ability to fit well within a Move deck archetype to double up on those On Reveal abilities from one-Cost cards, as demonstrated in this deck from Marvel Snap content creator dddrewsky. The one-Cost cards, in particular, are Ghost-Spider, Iron Fist, and Nico Minoru, which can be utilized to move valuable targets such as the Human Torch, Dagger, and Vulture fairly early.
Additionally, they'll have the Falcon return these all one-Cost cards in play to their hand to be replayed into the Joaquin Torres lane and, if they wish, duplicate Falcon with Frigga for more opportunities to bounce the one-Cost cards back to their hand. Lastly, other noted Move drivers like Araña, Madame Web, and Doctor Strange can also help maximize the power gained for the Human Torch, Dagger, and Vulture for lane priority and secure themselves a victory!
Best Marvel Snap Joaquin Torres / Falcon Decks: Bouncin' Falcons
The previously mentioned (and spotlighted) deck contained a slight bounce twist with the inclusion of OG Falcon, which naturally leads to the second spotlighted deck, premised around the Bounce archetype. This spotlighted Bounce deck can be a starting ground for new Snappers looking for a deck around this playstyle as it features a number of budget-friendly cards that they'll have access to and can swap out for more powerful cards like Sage, Hit-Monkey, and Galacta.
This high-flying Bounce deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper features a handful of one-Cost cards to take advantage of the Joaquin Torres / Falcon repeating abilities like Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, and America Chavez give themselves or other cards more power while Iceman prevents opponents from playing key cards which may help in setting up locations.
The Collector is factored into this deck as once Falcon and Beast are played, most, if not all, one-Cost cards will return to their hand, adding power to The Collector, which Kitty Pryde also helps. Angela and Elsa Bloodstone will provide more power at locations, and adding Wong to this deck will also help trigger On Reveal abilities in later turns.
Best Marvel Snap Joaquin Torres / Falcon Decks: Winged Iron Hand
Joaquin Torres / Falcon's best synergistic card is the recently released Moonstone, which this card gains the Ongoing abilities of all one, two, and three-Cost cards, including Joaquin Torres / Falcon. This can be incredibly beneficial in the Devil Dinosaur archetype, which sorely focuses on creating or generating cards to their hand and can be done so in various ways.
This archetype gained a slight resurgence following last month's season with the releases of Iron Patriot and Victoria Hand, featured in this deck from Marvel Snap content creator DenHearthstone; this deck is fairly straightforward, as Snappers will want to create as many cards as possible. Playing Joaquin Torres / Falcon and Moonstone in the exact location, they could play Maria Hill and Snowguard in this location to add power to Devil Dinosaur or play a one-Cost card with Mister Fantastic.
They'll also have Kate Bishop / Hawkeye, Iron Patriot, and Agent Coulson to create more cards, which, if they play on curve, they can gain max power from Wiccan. This ultimately allows them to play a combination of any created cards with Devil Dinosaur and Victoria Hand in the last turn to give these cards the extra +2 Power and, hopefully, a win!
