The pocket dimension where Marvel Snap resides is opening up once again; however, this time, the nefarious Doctor Doom 2099 and his DoomBots are looking to wreak havoc on the battlegrounds of this card battler game. As the Season 0 antagonist from the superhero team-based PvP shooter, Marvel Rivals, is heading to Marvel Snap; he's looking to clash against heroes attempting to thwart his plans.
With the current December 2024 season having reached its halfway mark as more heroes from Marvel Rivals are awaiting their debut in-game, for the time being, the timelines will be fused during this season to welcome these heroes or villains. This Doom-friendly guide details what we know about Doom 2099 by highlighting his card ability, identifying his key synergies and top card counters, and providing three decks worthy of his inclusion in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Doom 2099 Card Abilities Explained
The crossover season with NetEase Games' superhero team-based PvP shooter, Marvel Rivals, continues as the game's Season 0 antagonist, Doctor Doom 2099, looks to create as much chaos as possible as the next card release. Marvel Snap does have the Doctor Doom card available; however, his variant is looking to have quite a significant presence in-game, but does he have the power and stats to prove this?
As such, this alternate version of Doctor Doom, Doom 2099 from Marvel Rivals, is coming to Marvel Snap as a four Cost and two Power card, which the card has a Common Ability. According to the official card text, it adds a DoomBot 2099 token to a random location after every turn if Snappers only played one card, which the DoomBot generated has an Ongoing card text which the other DoomBots and Doom himself get +1 Power.
This card and its token do look to potentially develop its unique archetype centered around Doom as it synergizes with Ongoing cards, the Ramp and Lockdown archetypes, to name a few. However, as there is a potential Ramp synergy with Electro, which does force Snappers into this type of playstyle, limiting them to playing one card per turn to meet Doom 2099's condition will open the window for their opponents to counter them easily.
This will be detailed in the spotlighted decks that feature Doom 2099; as for acquiring the card, they can spend Spotlight Keys to get the card from the week's Spotlight Caches. However, if they have resources to spend and want to conserve their keys, they can spend 6,000 Collector's Tokens at the Token Shop to add Doom 2099 to their Collection.
Best Marvel Snap Doom 2099 Decks: 2099 Ramped Up!
It's important to reiterate that while Doom 2099 will add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if Snappers play exactly one card every turn, the DoomBots 2099 buffs other DoomBot cards, including those generated from Doom 2099 and Doctor Doom. The DoomBots 2099 also buffs Doom 2099 and Doctor Doom cards, which should help them build a deck around either or both cards (Doom 2099 and Doctor Doom).
Doom 2099 can be played a turn early via locations like Castle Blackstone, Elysium, Noor Dimension, Project Pegasus, or Quantum Tunnel (if it's still in the deck) and through playing specific cards like Zabu, Psylocke, Luna Snow, Electro, and Hope Summers. For the first deck, we'll look at a Ramp-style deck with Doom 2099 from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh, focusing on getting Doom 2099 out earlier through Zabu and Psylocke while using Magik to prolong the game by a turn.
Iron Lad is a great four Cost card to include in this deck as it can copy the top card's text in their deck, which includes Doom 2099, or playing Jubilee could draw the card onto the board. Blue Marvel and Sandman are good five Cost options as Blue Marvel can buff the power values of all cards on board, and Doctor Doom can further spread Power with the DoomBots, which most cards' Power can be buffed once again after Spectrum and Onslaught are played.
Best Marvel Snap Doom 2099 Decks: 2099 And Ongoing
Continuing the thread of spreading Power adequately across the board, this can also be achieved with a mostly Ongoing-style deck, especially featuring cards that grant power buffs. This is evident following the Captain America rework in May 2024, in which the card now gives all Ongoing cards at its location +2 Power instead of +1, making this card extremely valuable in Cerebro decks and Ongoing/buff style decks.
This deck also features a few interesting cards, which function as counters to potential cards their opponent may play by safeguarding them. This Ongoing deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper may not have the benefit of Zabu's inclusion to discount Doom 2099, but with Howard the Duck, Snappers can better plan and strategize their playline to gain as much power possible across the board with supporting cards, like Captain America, Omega Red, and Klaw to buff cards or locations.
Playing Goose and Cosmo will prevent specific cards from being played at locations, with Goose ensuring their cards aren't being targeted by Enchantress or Shang-Chi and Cosmo preventing On Reveal from played at its location, which is great for other noted counters like Rogue and Red Guardian. This can help to play higher cost Ongoing cards like Blue Marvel and Onslaught at Cosmo's location, but Spectrum may still be countered on the last turn, for which Doctor Doom could be played at the remaining location to generate the DoomBots and gain the power buff.
Best Marvel Snap Doom 2099 Decks: Doom Locks Down In 2099
Much like the ramp-style deck we've spotlighted in this guide, Zabu also has a presence in this third deck for Snappers to try, including Doom 2099, although with a different playstyle. The other notable card that gets targeted by Zabu is Storm, which had a significant nerf a while back, which saw the card go from a three Cost card to a four Cost and, as such, impacted the Lockdown archetype badly.
But with Zabu's inclusion, they can still get Storm out early by turn 3 unless Kamar-Taj is one of the revealed locations, which brings Storm and the other four Cost cards down to two, like Iron Lad, War Machine, and, yes, Doom 2099. This helps Snappers fast-track their playline in this Lockdown deck from Marvel Snap content creator DenHearthstone, which also includes some familiar and new synergistic cards that can play well alongside Doom 2099, like Psylocke that can help get Doom 2099 out earlier or perhaps Storm if Zabu hasn't entered their hand.
Jeff the Baby Land Shark will assist in swinging a location to their favor, while War Machine can help get The Infinaut onto the board without restrictions, allowing them to play Legion onto the Flooded location for more chaos. This should make playing Doctor Doom more straightforward, especially with War Machine in play, and ensure that Doctor Doom and his DoomBots receive the buff from Doom 2099's DoomBots.
