With the revamp of Hunt: Showdown to its latest iteration, Hunt: Showdown 1896, numerous improvements and changes were introduced to create a truly fresh experience.
However, some issues still lingered, and one major concern the community has urged Crytek to address is finally being tackled in the upcoming 2.2 update. Let’s dive into the details below.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 2.2 Update Focuses on Fixing Trade-Kills
For those unfamiliar, trades or "trade-kills" are one of the most frustrating aspects of Hunt: Showdown, persisting since previous versions and even in 1896. Trade kills occur when two players fire at nearly the same time, but instead of the first shooter securing the kill, both shots register. This means the opponent’s shot still hits, despite their character being downed, resulting in a mutual kill.
Crytek acknowledged this issue a while back, but no fix was implemented, leaving trades to persist in Hunt: Showdown 1896. However, there’s now some hope on the horizon.
In a recent Reddit post, Crytek announced that the upcoming 2.2 patch will address trade-kills. They explained that trades result from discrepancies between client and server hit registration and shared their plan to reduce the post-death hit registration window to just 75 milliseconds.
With this change, when a player lands a shot, the server will wait 75 milliseconds to confirm if any counteraction, like a shot from the opponent, also occurs. If nothing happens within this brief window, the opponent will die without landing a retaliatory shot, even if they clicked nearly simultaneously. This tweak is expected to significantly reduce trade kills by narrowing the hit registration timing.
This update is a welcome relief for Hunt players who have long requested a trade-kill fix. While its effectiveness remains to be seen, the effort to address this issue is a major step forward in enhancing Hunt: Showdown’s gameplay experience.
