It's no surprise that GTA 6 is arguably one of the most anticipated games of the decade. With so much hype surrounding it, expectations are high and sometimes even unrealistic. So, when an ex-Rockstar developer stated that players might be a little disappointed when the game releases, it's understandable.
The reason for this statement is multifaceted and, of course, doesn't mean that GTA 6 will be a failure; in fact, quite the opposite. Let's look at the statements made by the ex-Rockstar developer and discuss why they suggest that players' hopes might be a bit too high for GTA 6.
GTA 6 Could Leave Some Fans Disappointed According To Ex-Rockstar Developer
In a recent discussion with former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij on YouTuber SanInPlay's channel, the topic of GTA 6 was a highlight of the conversation. While both he and SanInPlay praised the recent trailer, Vermeij expressed some concerns about the game's eventual release.
Specifically, he made a strong statement about how the game will compare to GTA V and how it might disappoint fans regarding the expected leap from V to VI. “I don’t think it’s gonna be wildly different from GTA 5. I think people might be a little disappointed on the first day, but it’s still gonna be the best game out there,” he exclaims.
Expanding on his point, Vermeij stated that while Rockstar could pull it off, the expectations for GTA 6 are extraordinarily high, and technology hasn't advanced enough to make a jump like the ones from GTA 2 to GTA 3 or San Andreas to GTA 4. This is a fair point, as game development often relies on technological advancements to push boundaries and achieve something new. However, GTA 6 might not have the advantage of significant technological leaps since the release of GTA 5.
Of course, technology has improved overall, and GTA 6 will undoubtedly utilize it to its full potential, but we shouldn't expect it to be groundbreaking like the previous jumps. However, Vermeij also mentioned that when such a significant technological leap does occur, Rockstar will likely be the company to make it.
As he put it, “There’s some rumors about creating new technology having to do with animation and AI and all that stuff. I think it’s time for a revolution where animation is more AI-driven and physics-driven. If anyone is gonna make that step, it’s gonna be Rockstar.”
So, while we are all hyped up over the trailer and likely to get a game of the year from Rockstar when GTA 6 releases, we should temper our expectations regarding a technical leap. When the time comes for such a leap to be possible, Rockstar will likely be the pioneer, as it has been in the past.
