GTA 6 is poised to make a major impact on the gaming industry upon its release and is expected to set a new standard for its genre, much like GTA 5 did before it. The release of the game's first official trailer was massive, garnering 20 million views and fueling fans' hopes that the wait might be nearing its end. However, it seems we might need to hold off a bit longer.
According to a former Rockstar developer, the game could face additional delays despite Rockstar’s initial promise of a fall 2025 release. Let’s delve into the details and the insights provided by this ex-developer to understand how they might affect the release schedule for GTA 6.
Former Rockstar Developer Hints at Possible Delays for GTA 6
In between all the claims, speculations, and vague confirmations from Rockstar about the release date of GTA 6, a former Rockstar developer has offered some insider perspective. After working with Rockstar for 14 years, Obbe Vermeij has suggested that we should temper our expectations for an on-time release of GTA 6.
The decision to delay gtaIV was made 4 months or so before the original release date. Any further and it's hard to make the call. R* is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.

In a Twitter post, Vermeij noted, “The decision to delay GTA IV was made around 4 months before the original release date. Any further and it’s hard to make the call.” This means that it's too early to expect a confirmed release date for GTA 6, and delays are more likely at this stage.
Given that GTA V was one of the most successful and technically impressive releases of its time, it makes sense that the developers would want to meet or exceed that standard with GTA 6. Vermeij echoes this sentiment, stating, “They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it, regardless of what’s said in the trailer.”
While a March 2025 release is possible, Vermeij suggests that if the game isn’t ready by then, Rockstar will not hesitate to delay it, potentially even into 2026 if necessary. Of course, this remains speculative, and we just won't know until we get closer to the promised release period from Rockstar.
It’s wise to maintain realistic expectations and anticipate potential delays with GTA 6’s release. If any updates on the release date become available, we’ll make sure to keep you informed.
