With Diablo 4's 2.0 update, launching at the same time as the Vessel of Hatred expansion (8 October 2024), we'll see massive, system-wide changes, including a level squish, new Realm-wide Paragon level system, and four baseline difficulty levels for those making the journey from level 1 to 60.

Once you reach max level, the endgame opens up, and it is here where Diablo 4 players can start making their way through the incredibly challenging Torment difficulty levels. Take a seat, Nepahlem, as we'll explain how you can unlock all the Torment difficulty levels and the Curses each one brings to the world of Sanctuary.

In Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, the new Torment difficulty system is linked directly to your progress in The Pit. Basically, the higher your progress in The Pit, the higher the Torment difficulties you can unlock.

Below, you can check out the precise requirements for unlocking each of the four Torment difficulty levels in Diablo 4:

  • Reaching Level 60 unlocks the Pit and Tiers 1–20 of it. Beating Pit Tier 20 unlocks Torment Tier I.
  • Beating Pit Tier 35 unlocks Torment II.
  • Beating Pit Tier 50 unlocks Torment III.
  • Beating Pit 65 unlocks Torment IV.

It is also important to note that the higher your Torment difficulty you are paying, the higher your chances of getting Ancestral items! Yes, you'll want to play at the highest difficulty you can handle comfortably at all times.

All Diablo 4 Torment Curses

In Vessel of Hatred, monster level wills scale to the difficulty you are playing on, and Torment levels get seriously high, making even a few skeletons deadly for the unprepared. With Torment difficulty comes Curses, which reduces the player's elemental resistances and Armor. Check them out below.

  • Torment 1: -250 Armor and -25% All Resist
  • Torment 2: -500 Armor and -50% All Resist
  • Torment 3: -750 Armor and -75% All Resist
  • Torment 4: -1000 Armor and -100% All Resist

Remember, the Torment difficulty levels are for everyone when Diablo 4 patch 2.0 releases on 8 October 2024. That includes those who decided not to purchase Vessel of Hatred, as these changes affect the base game as well.

Check out the extensive developer Campfire Chat video below, where Blizzard explains the massive changes in Diablo 4 update 2.0, including Torment difficulty levels and the new ways player progression works.

So there you have it: all the Diablo 4 Torment difficulties, how to unlock them, and the Curses you will have to contend with. Good luck, Nephalem, and don't forget to join us for Vessel of Hatred!
