Diablo 4 Difficulty Set To Increase With Season 8

Blizzard plans to increase the overall difficulty of Diablo 4 with the massive Season 8 update.

There's a lot to love about Diablo 4's Season of Witchcraft after the release Vessel of Hatred expansion. However, one thing that I think most Diablo 4 players can agree on is that the game is a bit too easy right now. This is evident by over 50% of players making it to Torment 4, and leveling up at blistering paces without any issues.

That will change when the Lord of Lies, aka Belial, returns to Sanctuary in Diablo 4 Season 8. In case you didn't know, Blizzard did delay Season 8 by quite a bit, and will first hold a PTR test. We expect Season 8 to not release until sometime in late April.

Now, back to the main point of this article. Blizzard's Colin Finer, in a March 2025 Campfire Chat, has revealed that the team thinks players are moving through the content way too quickly.

To remedy the situation, players will level slower in the first 25 levels, and experience more challenges/hardships to overcome on a new character. Rare loot such as Legendary items will also be MUCH harder to find than it currently is.

We'll also see fewer players reach the highest Torment difficulty level. According to Blizzard, it should be a goal to work towards, not something anyone can do super quickly. Colin Finer explained:

Just from a philosophy standpoint, we really want whatever the hardest Torment tier is — in this case Torment 4 — to be aspirational, and to us that means around 10% (of players).

We do believe that this will be a game-wide change, for both owners of just the base game and those who have Vessel of Hatred as well. These changes should also be part of both the Seasonal and Eternal Realms.

I, for one, am quite excited about the increased difficulty level the developers are working on. Diablo 4 felt way too easy in Season of Witchcraft, and I hope the game returns to the glory days of Diablo 2, where it felt like a hybrid between ARPG and the survival genre.

While you wait for Diablo 4 Season 8 to release, check out the latest Campfire Chat video below where the developers discuss all the upcoming changes and content additions. It's a long one (well over a hour) so maybe grab some coffee and snacks.
