Apex Legends season 22 has been jam-packed with new content and updates, and the next new announcement on the list is the Knockout mode. New modes are always interesting and tend to switch things up from round to round, but each and every one has its own set of rules and unique gameplay.
Before jumping into a match for any new mode, it's important to read up on what that new mode is all about if you want to make the most of your first battle. Here's everything you need to know about Apex Legends' new Knockout mode, including what gameplay will look like and when it's scheduled to arrive in the game.
Apex Legends Knockout Mode Gameplay
At the Apex Legends Global Series Split 2 Playoffs this year, Respawn developers revealed the upcoming Knockout mode. While details are still sparse, lead weapons designer Eric Canavase provided some insight into what fans can expect from the mode, calling it a "fun new twist on the battle royale."
Canvase explained the mode as having various capture points that players will fight over. Legends will also be able to earn points through kills - as per usual - and at the end of each match, the teams with the fewest kills will be eliminated. Though kills will earn you points, respawns are infinite - so while the player in the lead always has a chance to keep their standing, they can often lose it with ease, too.
“You can always come back. If things aren’t going well there you can respawn somewhere else. . .fly over and take the fight to one of the other capture points," Canvase said. "You’ve got lots of opportunities to make it to the end, you just gotta stay good.”
This new mode definitely sounds like it will switch things up for Apex, and will introduce totally new ways for Legends to play. It will likely be popular among beginners and veterans alike. New players lose the frustration of dying, since they can freely respawn, and skilled players have even more opportunities to show what they know through both capturing points and killing opponents.
Apex Legends Knockout Mode Release Date
For now, developers haven't confirmed when Apex Legends' new Knockout mode will be added to the game. Given the timing of the announcement, though, it seems pretty likely that the mode will be added in Season 22 or Season 23. Developers rarely announce new modes long before they're added to the game.
That's all we know so far about Apex Legends' Knockout mode, but developers will likely unveil more detailed information and a release date in the near future.
