E3 2018 Roundup: Nintendo smash expectations

E3 is arguably the biggest event on the gaming calendar, as top developers and studios showcase the products they’ve been working on.

The final conference of the week was run by Nintendo, and gamers waited patiently to see what fun new games Nintendo were offering – and in particular, a first look at Smash on the Switch.

Super Mario Party

The first game shown was the return of the popular Mario Party series, with Super Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario Party will feature a lot of fun mini-games, as it always does, and will be launching on 5th October.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC

Xenoblade Chronicles is going to be getting a story expansion in the coming months.

The upcoming story expansion is called Torna – the Golden Country.

Nintendo’s description says:

“Guide a group of legendary warriors on a journey through the tragic history that doomed a kingdom and drove a hero down a dark path 500 years before the events of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game.

Defend yourself from Malos and his forces using all the fury of this refined battle system, allowing you to fight as both the artificial lifeforms known as Blades and their masters, the Drivers.”

Torna – the Golden Country is set to be released on 14th September if you’re an expansion pass owner, and 21st September if not.

Fortnite on the Switch

Although we all know Fortnite was coming to the Switch, this is the first time we got to hear more about it.

The game became immediately available following Nintendo’s conference, so it is available right now for any Switch users to download.

If you missed it, make sure to catch up on all the events of the Fortnite Pro-Am tournament!

Overcooked 2

2016 cooking simulation game Overcooked is going to be getting a sequel.

Overcooked 2 promises more recipes, characters and mechanics than its predecessor, and is due for release on August 7th on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch.

Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight for Switch was originally announced in January last year.

It was confirmed at E3 that Hidden Dreams is available on the Switch right now, alongside all DLC and expansion packs too.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

At E3, Nintendo gave fans another look at possibly the most anticipated game of the year: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

As evidenced in the above trailer, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature a roster full of every single character in Smash history.

There weren’t many new inclusions to the series, however. Daisy is featured, and so is Inkling Boy and Girl, but that is all there is in terms of new characters.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on 7th December.

What did you make of Nintendo’s E3 conference? I found the conference itself to be somewhat anti-climactic – it was clear that Nintendo were reliant on Smash to make sure it was a good one. Smash fans will be delighted, but others may be pretty underwhelmed.
