If you haven’t played Apex Legends yet, you really are starting to become the minority. The new battle royale title from Respawn Entertainment elevates the battle royale genre to a class-based system that allows players to pick their character and the ultimate abilities that come with them, whilst keeping some of the traditional aspects of battle royale games that have conquered the gaming ecosystem in the last two years.
Within 72 hours the game had reached 10 million players – an incredible feat in itself, not to mention beating the world record previously set by main competitor Fortnite. However, Respawn one-upped themselves on Monday, February 11, by announcing that just a week after release, they had reached 25 million players, as well as at the time hosting 2 million concurrents.
For context, it took Fortnite two weeks to reach the 10 million players milestone – though it now boasts 200 million players and a peak of 8.3 million concurrents.
When announcing their incredible record, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella also shared some of the updates and exciting events coming to Apex in the near future, including:
- The Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge. Sponsored by Twitch, the Rivals Apex Legends Challenge will take place this Tuesday (Feb 12) and next Tuesday (Feb 19), with 48 of the biggest streamers on Twitch competing live in Apex Legends. Respawn will be co-streaming all the action from our Apex Legends Twitch channel.
- Later this week they’ll be introducing some limited-time Valentine’s Day themed loot, so all you (Apex Legends) lovers out there keep your eyes open.
- Season One kicks off in March, introducing the debut of the Battle Pass as well as new Legends, weapons, loot, and more.
