Quite possibly the geekiest group of licences ever assembled, but there’s one more name missing from that list. A name that’s arguably more popular today than ever – the Marvel Universe. Well guess what? It’s time to face front true believers! Time to welcome Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine and Mr. Fantastic to another universe – the LEGO Universe! And if it’s in the LEGO Universe, you can just about guarantee it’s going to get a game. The ultimate game. LEGO Marvel Superheroes.
Building… Sorry, “continuing on” from the template set by every other entry in the series, LEGO Marvel Superheroes is yet another colourful, cartoon-ish mish-mash of action, puzzles, collectables and platforming – featuring a roster of characters that totals…dacidadaaa…a hundred and fifty?! Wow that’s a lot of characters. Developer TT Games appear to have mined deep into the Marvel vaults, to bring you not only their A-List, but their B, C and D list stars as well. There a Mister, a Missus, three Doctors and five different kinds of Iron Man to control, and that’s just for starters. We’re not sure there’s ever been this many Marvel characters playable in just one game, and that alone ought to grab your attention.
But wait – there’s more! You see, it’s not just that there are a lot of characters, this time out, each one looks to have their very own recognisable personality. Different walking animations, different powers, different ways of problem solving. The LEGO series has been moving more and more towards this lately, with the completely unique Superman and Batman in LEGO Batman 2 and the huge cast of LEGO The Lord of the Rings, but here it appears to have reached a whole other level. Mixing together elements of the comics, cartoons and movies – the result is pretty exhaustive and should appeal to just about everyone who makes theirs Marvel. Oh, and did you know there’s going to be a character customizer as well? The possibilities for that are limitless.
