Vikings are at the peak of popularity and we are getting yet another RPG inspired by the legendary warriors and Norse mythology - Tribes of Midgard.
Developed by Norsfell and published by Gearbox Publishing, Tribes of Midgard is a co-op action survival RPG for up to 10 players and the story sees players joining up in a tribe to fight back against "unwelcome visitors".
Thematically, the game looks similar to Valheim, as it is a co-op Viking game with RPG elements, but just how similar are these two games? Let's find out.
Tribes of Midgard story
As we've already mentioned, the game is heavily inspired by Norse mythology and Viking culture.
Midgard has been attacked by giants and players will need to create a tribe and fight back.
Players are taking the role of Einherjar, fallen might warriors brought to Valhalla after by valkyries.
But now the world is in trouble, and you will return to Midgard to fight these giants who want to summon Ragnarök - the end of the world.
Tribes of Midgard gameplay and features
At its core, Tribes of Midgard is a co-op action RPG for up to 10 players.
But the game also features survival elements, as players will need to build their village and set up defences in order to protect it against gigantic invaders.
The game features a vast, procedurally generated open world to explore with numerous dungeons and legendary bosses, inspired by mystical creatures from Norse mythology.
Players will be able to choose from 8 unique classes, some of them available right away, while some you will need to unlock first: Ranger, Guardian, Warrior, Warden, Hunter, Sentinel, Berserker, and Seer.
Currently, there are two modes available, Saga Mode and Survival Mode.
Saga mode is a story-based experience focusing on Saga Quests, where players will need to defend their village’s Seed of Yggdrasil from giants throughout four seasons.
Survival Mode is an endless sandbox mode where players can set up various parameters and make the experience more challenging: the harder are settings the better are rewards.
