Souldiers is a brand new Souls-like Metroidvania video game produced by Retro Forge, which promises to bring forth a gameplay experience like no other. The game's 16-bit art style, matched with its challenging gameplay, makes it a game to look out for upon its release.
Set in an enchanting epic fantasy world, Souldiers will see you fighting for the glory and honour of the kingdom while uncovering the mysteries of the afterlife. We have detailed everything about Souldiers, including the release date, gameplay features, trailer and more.
Souldiers – Release date and trailer
Developer Retro Forge detailed that Souldiers is set to release on 19th May 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4/5 Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Players wanting to playtest the game ahead of its release can do so as there's a demo available for PC via Steam.
Additionally, you can add the game to your Wishlist on Steam if you're interested in this Souls-lie game. Likewise, they have dropped the official trailer for Souldiers at the MIX 10th-anniversary showcase, featuring gameplay footage and more.
Souldiers – Gameplay features
Being a platformer/rogue-like game, you will be required to venture through the lands of Terragaya as you collect items, unlock areas, solve puzzles and fight monsters and bosses alike. The gameplay experience poses a great challenge as it will test your endurance, patience and understanding.
You'll need to learn the enemy patterns and adjust to each situation as it becomes necessary. Knowing how your character behaves and reacts, whether it's slashing away with your sword, dodging and rolling to evade enemies or timing your shield blocks, can help you trigger powerful counter-attacks.

The game works with a character creation feature, where you start with one of the available classes, improve on your skills and what build you wish to have. The levelling system is tree-like, where unlocking one ability/node will unlock others connecting to it.
You can also upgrade your weapons and gear as you push through; this allows for unique builds and speaks to its soul-like influence. With all the options you have for customisation, the game will be an amazing experience for players.
Thanks to its 16-bit art style, the game isn't too demanding, but that doesn't mean it won't look good. The developers have put a ton of work into this game's details and artistic style, making it one of the most beautiful titles we have ever seen and easily ranks among Terraria, Chrono Trigger and Super Metroid.
Lastly, the game will feature a riveting story set in a beautifully-designed world. While fighting on behalf of your kingdom, your company stumbles into the afterlife, where you'll need to find a Guardian to guide you back home.
While we can't say too much more, from what we've seen in the demo, the game is more than just grinding through dungeons. And the story is one you can sink your teeth into with quirky, intimidating and powerful NPCs for you to interact with as you push forward in your journey.
