Song Of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is not just for League of Legends fans. If you have any qualms about getting this game because you are not a fan of League of Legends, then let us be the first to tell you that you can fully enjoy this game without knowing a single thing about it.

Song Of Nunu is an adventure game about Nunu, who is a young Notai, and his friend Willump, the last Yeti in Runeterra. Throughout this game, you will go through an adventure that has good puzzles but a weak combat system through the snowy Freljord that is worth experiencing. This adventure is truly why Nunu and Willump are considered to be legends.

An Adventure That Always Moves Forward

There is a lot of beauty in the Freljord waiting to be discovered. (Picture: Tequila Works)

Song Of Nunu is an adventure game more similar to Uncharted rather than an open-world game. You will be going through each location in the Freljord with Nunu and Willump to reach your final destination with the option to poke your head around to see what collectible you can discover. Just be sure to discover everything you can because once you hit a new story beat, it is unlikely you will be able to return to that location until the post-game.

The variety of puzzles you hit on the main path never feel too difficult to overcome but they are nice brain teasers. Sometimes, the puzzles are more about timing than anything else. On top of the puzzles, you will occasionally get into fights on your adventure and the fights are, unfortunately, the weakest point of the game. Fighting as Nunu and Willump feels clunky and a bit too simple. There really is not any strategy to fighting in Song of Nunu other than not getting hit. But after fights, getting to a new location makes it worth it.

Getting to new locations feels amazing. The music and the sound direction deserve only the highest praise as the audio and music are fantastic the entire game. The sounds of discovery make you feel like you found something amazing. Couple that with the art direction, and you have a game that is a beautiful adventure the entire way through.

With the game fully voice-acted, hearing the banter between Nunu and Willump is always a pleasure. What they say gives the journey more purpose as you continue moving forward. Because of this, you never forget that Nunu is a kid on a large adventure with the last Yeti.

This leads to some interesting interactions. Nunu and Willump will occasionally challenge each other in snowball fights that you play as Nunu. Although they often choose unusual locations for this to happen, these snowball fights do feel necessary because it is a reminder that Nunu is a kid on a large adventure.

That feeling persists with the variety of characters Nunu and Willump interact with. Each character that players meet in the game feels like they push the story forward in a meaningful way on top of being there to really hammer in the point that Nunu is a kid who has every right to be amazed at what he is seeing.

Controlling the game as just Nunu does not feel bad at all. You do not feel downgraded when you are off Willump and doing your own thing as Nunu. Throwing snowballs, moving around, playing the magical Svellsonger flute, and going to small areas where Willump cannot feel good. Nunu can move just as well alone as he does with Willump.

Song Of Nunu Verdict: 4/5

You do not need to be a League of Legends fan at all to be a Song of Nunu fan. The adventure that you go through with Nunu and Willump is one that is absolutely worth having. The story remains focused the entire way with humorous character interactions and the gameplay and puzzles definitely outweigh the very weak combat system. Song of Nunu is a great example of a game that gives the word "adventure" meaning.
