Nowadays, many new titles lean more toward higher-quality graphics and gameplay in order to present a more realistic feeling and experience to players.
But that's not quite the case with Beamdog’s upcoming RPG, MythForce. The title's cartoonish graphics inspired from the 80s give a different vibe with a refreshing take for a game being released in this generation.
MythForce provides a nostalgic aura wherein those familiar with 80s cartoons will recognize a certain resemblance with the game’s characters, environment, and overall presentation. Yet, of course, you can still see that the majority of its elements are pretty much on par with the tech available today.
Trent Oster, Beamdog’s CEO, mentioned that the game is “pure, unadulterated fun — right out of the Saturday mornings of my childhood.” He also added that “It’s a big departure from the RPG classics we’re known for, but the Beamdog DNA is evident if you know where to look.” Now, let's dive into more of the specifics.
Is MythForce available on Steam?
MythForce will officially be released on 20th April, exclusively as a PC title. At the time of writing, the only confirmed PC platform where the game will be available is the Epic Games Store.

But as for its rival Steam? Well, there still isn’t any news on whether it will arrive on the platform or not. One interesting point to note is that MythForce is being listed by Rock, Paper, Shotgun in its 'Events' section on Steam, so there may still be hope that the cartoonish game could possibly be coming to another PC gaming platform.
MythForce details and more - PC exclusive
The Epic Games Store provides a brief description of the game, primarily about its nostalgic vibe. It reads as: “Saturday Mornings Are Back! Become a cartoon hero in a bodacious 80s fantasy world. Scratch that nostalgic itch with wholesome fun that’s easy to pick up and play (but tough to master). In true rogue-like fashion, each time you’re defeated, you’ll have to start over at the beginning— but every playthrough makes you a little stronger. Level up as you explore the dungeon, uncovering magical artifacts and upgrades to make you say “I HAVE THE POWER!”
MythForce will provide both Single-Player and Co-Op game modes. Players can fight their way through by using weapons and magic to slay the monsters they will be encountering. Check out the game’s official trailer in the video below:
