HBO and Naughty Dog's upcoming TV series, The Last of Us, will debut on 15th January 2023 and supposedly feature ten episodes. This announcement comes right after information detailing the release was leaked through the various promotional features and the HBO Max App in the United Kingdom. However, HBO and Naughty Dog later officially announced their debut via Twitter on 2nd November 2022.
The HBO TV series is adapted from the BAFTA award-winning game The Last of Us and will star legendary actor Pedro Pascal, known for his appearances in The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984 film. Pascal will play Joel in The Last of Us TV series. In addition, the series will also feature Bella Ramsey (as Ellie), who's known for her appearance as Lyanna Mormont in the esteemed Game of Thrones series.

The series was initially teased in September via a near-two-minute trailer on YouTube. Although HBO or Naughty Dog hasn't revealed much about the series' storyline, the show will follow the events seen in the titular 2013 game, The Last of Us. However, according to IGN, some moments will "deviate greatly" from the events seen throughout the game.

The show's executive director Neil Druckmann said, "Things sometimes stay pretty close [in The Last of Us TV series]. It’s funny to see my dialogue there from the games in HBO scripts. And sometimes they deviate greatly to much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium.”
Druckmann didn't reveal much about what fans can expect from the series but did note that some moments will "deviate greatly" from the events within the game. This deviation in the narrative is supposed to please the masses and create a middle-ground for viewers without prior knowledge of the game the series is adapted. That said, Druckmann noted that there'd be some dialogue or easter eggs that The Last of Us players might recognize.
For more information, fans can stay tuned and wait a little while longer as HBO and Naughty Dog's The Last of Us TV series debuts on 15th January 2023. Feel free to watch the official trailer above.
