Netflix's The Witcher is widely regarded as one of the best fantasy drama series on the platform. However, after the streaming giant announced that the talented and iconic actor, Henry Cavill, wouldn't be playing the role of Geralt of Rivia after the third season, fans felt a little irked. That said, Liam Hemsworth will take up the role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4, with a new live-action spin-off series of The Witcher, entitled The Rats, reportedly releasing before or during its third season.
For those unfamiliar, The Witcher Season 1 explained how Geralt of Rivia met Ciri. The next season delved deeper into Ciri's story, including how she tapped into her powers and trained under Geralt of Rivia's mentorship. Followingly, The Witcher Season 3 will supposedly dive deeper into their relationship. It is also expected to focus more on Ciri's powers and decisions as she navigates the terrifying, chaotic world that has transformed in front of her eyes alongside Yennefer and Geralt of Rivia.
So what's Netflix's The Rats about? According to a report by Redanian Intelligence, the new The Witcher spin-off "will explore the infamous group of young Nilfgaardian misfits called The Rats." It's worth noting that The Rats are featured in the original The Witcher novel series and form part of Ciri’s storyline.
"In The Witcher Season 3, The Rats will be featured in Episodes 7 and 8, when Ciri will first meet them. They are meant to be featured even more in Season 4 of The Witcher. But between Seasons 3 and 4, we’ll have the spin-off," noted Redanian Intelligence. So far, the misfits should appear in The Witcher Season 3, and if things go well with production, they'll likely make it to the Netflix spin-off series, The Rats.
According to Redanian Intelligence, Christelle Elwin will play Mistle, "the very first Rat." In addition, Fabian McCallum will play Kayleigh, "who most recently appeared in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon." Following this, Reef will be played by Juliette Alexandra, while there's some speculation that Aggy K. Adams might play Iskra in The Rats. These actors will supposedly also appear in The Witcher Season 3 when Ciri first encounters them.
That said, it's best to take everything with a grain of salt. Although it's surely great that Netflix might be creating a spin-off series of The Witcher and might feature new faces in its third season, only time can tell what happens. We'll endeavor to update you with more concrete details following an official announcement by Netflix.
