First cryptocurrency gaming org, Łitecoin, signs inaugural esports team

Cryptocurrency and open source, global payment network, Łitecoin, has picked up their first-ever full team in the car soccer video game, Rocket League.

On 10th January, Łitecoin Gaming signed independent team Nefarious and the roster of Stephen "hockE" H., Adam "Ahduhm" Gehman, Alexander "Buddy" Che, substitute Jake "JWismont" Wismont and coach Ben "Space Beer" Baron will rep the blue and white banner effective immediately.

“Rocket League is a great addition to our already rapidly growing organization” said CEO Robert “AxiS” Coleman. “We will be displaying the Litecoin brand to hundreds of thousands of people with this, while also putting on a great show for our viewers.”

Despite already having both multiple Halo and Call of Duty players signed under the org, this is the first time Łitecoin has signed a full esports team under their gaming division.

Łitecoin is set to make their Rocket League Championship Series debut in the upcoming North American Winter Regional from 14th to 16th January 2022. Click here so you don’t miss any of the action.

Nefarious as a team, however, is known for their consistency in qualifying to the RLCS Main Events and keeping up with the big dogs in the region. Their current roster has had notable performances like a third placement in the DreamHack Beyond Boost Cup, a runner-up title in the Philly Esports 10K Legend Series and the ASTRONAUTS Star Circuit Open Ladder Championship.

The world of cryptocurrency merging with video games has been a hot topic of discussion lately, with opposers claiming it could be a new way for greedy developers to monetise their audience, while enthusiasts claim that introducing a blockchain system and NFTs (non-fungible tokens) could see users earn money for simply playing their favourite games. 

Platforms like Steam have made their stance clear by banning all games involving crypto and NFTs, meanwhile, other companies such as Square Enix have fully embraced this emerging technology. 

With the Winter LAN Major in less than three months and the World Championship Wildcard over the 2022 Summer, there's no better time for Łitecoin to make the biggest push that'll take the "first-ever crypto gaming org" to the global stage.
