One of the most exciting aspects of a new Pokemon game is the new starter Pokemon. The Pokemon you start with in Scarlet and Violet will help shape the team that you use to go through the gyms, no matter which version of the game you are playing.
The new Pokemon you will choose from as your starter are Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. It is important that you understand what to expect from each Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet when you are starting out. So we will go over some of their stats and weaknesses. We will not go over their final evolution at this time to prevent spoilers.
Sprigatito Guide Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Sprigatito is one of the three starter Pokemon available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. It is a Grass-type Pokemon with the ability called Overgrow. Overgrow makes it so that when Sprigatito is under 1/3 of its HP, its grass-type moves hit 50% harder. With its grass typing, it has a lot of weaknesses to look out for.
Sprigatito's defensive weaknesses are:
- Fire
- Ice
- Poison
- Flying
- Bug
Sprigatito's grass-type moves are strong against water, ground, and rock-type Pokemon.
Fuecoco Guide in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Fuecoco is the fire-type Pokemon that you can choose to use in your adventure. Fuecoco can be argued to be the best offensive type starter Pokemon based on the fact that fire attacks hit a good chunk of Pokemon for super-effective damage. Fuecoco has the ability Blaze. Blaze makes it so that when Fuecoco is under 1/3 HP, its fire-damage output increases by 50%. So players can use this ability to make a comeback.
Fuecoco's defensive weaknesses are:
- Water
- Ground
- Rock
Out of the three starter Pokemon, Fuecoco has the largest range of super-effective damage. Fuecoco hits grass, ice, bug, and steel-type Pokemon for super-effective damage.
Quaxly Guide in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Quaxly is the water-type Pokemon that players can choose as their starter in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Quaxly has an ability called Torrent. Much like Blaze or Overgrow, Torrent activates when Quaxly is under 1/3 HP, increasing its water damage by 50%. Because of its water typing, Quaxly actually has the best defensive coverage out of the three starters.
Quaxly's defensive weaknesses are:
- Grass
- Electric
So long as you can avoid grass and electric-type attacks, Quaxly does not have much to worry about. Quaxily's water attacks hit fire, ground, and rock-type Pokemon for super effective damage.
