Who is Gorr the God Butcher in Thor Love and Thunder?

With the upcoming release of Thor: Love and Thunder in July, you may be asking yourself, who will be the villain to face the beloved Thor in this new Marvel movie? Through photos and merchandising, Marvel has revealed that the antagonist in Thor: Love and Thunder will be Gorr the God Butcher.

Gorr will be making his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a villain that returns from the Thor Marvel comics. Though Gorr hasn’t been revealed in any trailers yet, Marvel has confirmed that this character is coming to Thor: Love and Thunder.

Gorr the God Butcher - Thor Love and Thunder

In the Marvel comics, Gorr the God Butcher was an alien born on a planet with no name. He and his people suffered greatly on the planet and worshiped the gods in hope of salvation.

After the death of his wife and children, Gorr denounced his faith in the gods and was exiled away from living with his people. While in exile, Gorr comes across two gods fighting and one of them asks him for help.

Gorr is enraged by the god asking him for help when he’d never received any himself. The evil god, Knull, manifests into a dark symbiotic mass that combines with Gorr creating the first symbiote.

Gorr obtains All-Black the Necrosword and powers with this fusion. After slaying the god who asked him for help, he vowed to kill all gods to create a godless universe. Gorr traveled the timelines slaying gods and growing stronger.

Throughout time, Gorr and Thor faced off several times and each encounter brought one or both close to death. Thor cut off Gorr’s arm during their first fight.

Gorr fled and continued to grow in strength while traveling from planet to planet. Once strong enough, Gorr used the blood of the TIme Gods to go back and kill an Elder God granting him massive power.

He returned to the present time and enslaved gods to help him begin construction on the god bomb which would kill all gods across the timestream. In the comics, Gorr meets his demise after creating a copy of his son that ends up being a manifestation of his self-loathing and kills him.

Who plays Gorr the God Butcher in Thor Love and Thunder?

Previously capturing the hearts of many as Bruce Wayne, The Batman in The Dark Knight, Christian Bale is no stranger to the intensity of superhero movies.

The rumor now going around is that Gorr the God Butcher will be played by Christian Bale. Bale would be making his first MCU appearance, something many fans have been clamoring for.

Christian Bale will be joining Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Russel Crowe, and many more in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Gorr the God Butcher’s Powers and Abilities

After fusing with the Dark God Knull, Gorr gains the power to create All-Black the Necrosword which can shapeshift into different weapons. The symbiote gives him immortality, regeneration, super strength, and flight.
