Over the last decade, licensed merchandise has grown enough in popularity for Marvel to engage with its audience and retain its brand value. Through various partnerships and collaborations, including Funko, merchandise based on its characters featured in Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a massive drawing card.
Especially given that limited editions are sold exclusively at retailers or conventions, everyone wishes to get a piece of memorabilia of their favorite Marvel characters. Unfortunately, however, this also saw the rise of horrific and hilarious knock-off merchandise, which caught the attention of many fans online.
A Twitter account called Strange Knock-Off Designs (@offbranddesigns) is dedicated to uploading images of knock-off brands, courtesy of submissions privately sent by its followers. Accordingly, on 15th November 2022, the account posted a picture of what appears to be an action figure of Marvel's jade-colored smashing hero, The Incredible Hulk.
The difference is that it isn't an action figure of the Hulk but a bizarrely designed knock-off variation named The Incredible Fella. While the account didn't reveal who submitted this hilariously smashing image of the action figure, it's evident that there wasn't much thought put into it, nor did it adhere to the copyright laws.
Nevertheless, it had erupted Twitter into a frenzy of hilarity, and the responses were sublime at best. One follower responded to the post, explaining, "Endless Tussle was probably the best experience I've ever had in a cinema. He certainly was an incredibly fella."
Another follower took the opportunity to burn another prominent brand's merchandising in relation to the image used to promote the action figure. "The image looks like it has been made with WWE games."
Speaking of the WWE, brave Twitter users decided to specifically target a former WWE wrestler, comparing them to the image supplied on the box. "Why is he a non-rendered modified Dwayne Johnson model?" one user commented while another stoked the fire, tweeting, "Why does the first slide look like the rock from a PS2 WWE video game?"
Finally, one Twitter user shared an image of the backside of the action figure's packaging, revealing knock-offs of other action figures in the Revengers Endless Tussle line. This includes knock-offs of She-Hulk and Guardians of the Galaxy member Rocket Raccoon, with the Twitter user captioning the image, "Feel the wrath of Regular Racoon!"
Either way, users continue to take shots at the action figure while comparing them to popular culture, providing much comic relief despite the dark cloud hanging over the platform. Whether we'll see The Incredible Fella appearing online is anyone's guess; for now, you can see him in the Revengers Endless Tussle alongside his fellow cohorts in selected stores worldwide.
