Does GTA Online Have A Story

GTA Online has a lot of content packed into the game. There are big heists that you can take part in and you can buy multiple businesses within the game. This is all to expand your criminal empire in the game and to make as much money as possible.

But between all the businesses that you can own and all the other crazy actions that you can do in GTA Online, is there an over-arching story going on? Is there a story mode for GTA Online? We are here to answer that question.

Is There An Over-Arching Story In GTA Online?

There are a couple of ways to answer this question. First of all, is there an over-arching story for GTA Online? The answer to this question is no, there is no over-arching story. Sure, there are references to other things you might have done in the past in GTA Online but they do not connect deeply. Once you have met main characters like Lester in GTA Online, you are essentially guided by them to do heists and things of that nature. They essentially give you a reason to do the heist.

However, that does not mean that there is no story in GTA Online. For example, The Contract expansion has quite a bit of story related to the missions in the game. Here, you will follow characters like Dr Dre, Franklin, and Lamar to progress in the missions for this expansion. To say there is no story to be told there would be incorrect. But you do not need to do these missions to do other missions in the game. So although there is a story to be told in this expansion, it does not necessarily connect to other pieces of content in GTA Online like the Doomsday Heist or the Fleeca job.

Is There A Story Mode For GTA Online?

Technically, there is a story mode for GTA Online. Grand Theft Auto V could be considered to be the story mode for GTA Online. We say this because you can purchase GTA Online on its own without having access to GTA V.

So if you have bought GTA Online without GTA V, we recommend that you purchase the original game for story mode. GTA V has been critically acclaimed to be one of the most beloved single-player story games in gaming, so it is well worth your time to play through it.
