New game modes are coming to Dead by Daylight. This news came directly from the developer Behaviour Interactive in a Reddit thread, which comes after years of fans requesting the feature, and the DBD team conducting surveys to gauge players' interest in the addition of new game modes to the title.
"I can confirm this is something we are actively prototyping," said Dead By Daylight developer Justin Brown. "We plan on starting small and doing game modes as limited-time modes and building up from there," Brown added. This statement would imply that developers would likely test out these game modes during events, allowing players to experience a new style of gameplay in DBD.

Did everybody forget the devs literally said they’re going to start bringing in new game modes soon.
Starting small, they’ll first be introduced through limited time modes to make Events more impactful. https://t.co/pGqPntWeIepic.twitter.com/4uUowygbse
What could these new game modes look like, though? We could imagine a 5v1 DBD or even 3v1 DBD experience, or perhaps a ranked and unranked mode so players can choose their level of challenge. We might also see PVE, like what's coming in the upcoming DBD PVE Midwinter Games title.
Brown said that developers hoped to be able to share updates about DBD's new game modes later in 2023. DBD tends to release a ton of new updates around October, given that it's Halloween month. The Year 8 Roadmap also shows that we'll be getting a new event in October-November, so this could be Behaviour's chance to introduce fans to new game modes.
We could also get new game modes during the winter Bone Chill event; developers have toyed with changing gameplay elements during this celebration before, allowing survivors to jump into snowmen to absorb a hit or hide inside them as the killer.
It's definitely exciting news for many fans that new game modes for Dead by Daylight are in the works, and developers say more information is coming relatively soon. For now, players can sit back and enjoy Dead by Daylight's Scorching Summer BBQ 2023 event; while it doesn't introduce any new game modes, it switches up the game with new offerings, decorations, challenges, rewards, and more.
