The news that every Call of Duty fan was waiting for: Activision have announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be launching in November, 2023. This next installment in this long-running franchise will continue the rebooted narrative of Modern Warfare 2, while bringing in a new wave of content to the free-to-play battle royale Warzone.
While the majority of players are eager to see more from the upcoming title in terms of gameplay, there are a number of other housekeeping issues that have been raised. Primarily, whay happens to all of your cosmetics and items bought and used in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, now that Modern Warfare 3 is on the way. Fortunately, Activision have taken steps to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible, thanks to the Carry Forward initiative.
For the first time in Call of Duty history, a huge amount of content from a previous Modern Warfare title (in this case Modern Warfare 2) will be transferred to the next through "Carry Forward." This means that weapons and other collected/unlocked content from both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone will be available in Modern Warfare 3. But the question arises: how can you tell which items will Carry Forward?

How To Tell Which Items Will Carry Forward To Modern Warfare 3?
There are a number of ways to tell which items will Carry Forward from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone to Modern Warfare 3. We'll break them down below:
- If you're buying a Modern Warfare 2 Store Bundle, a new label will appear from August 16 that indicated whether or not the content will be usuable in both games. The label will read something like: "All items in bundle will also be useable in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3."
- Generally, all Modern Warfare 2 cosmetics will be supported in Modern Warfare 3, with a few caveats:
- Some vehicle Skins may not be available.
- Wartracks will not carry forward.
- Some Tactical and Lethal equipment may not be available depending on the removing of those items in MW3, to be replaced with MW3-only equipment. Exact Tactical and Lethal equipment within MW3 is set to be revealed at a later date.
- Operators, Weapons, and any cosmetic item with a limited time unlock won’t be available unless it was unlocked in MW2 at the appropriate time.
All Cosmetics Item Types That Will Carry Over From Modern Warfare 2, Warzone To Modern Warfare 3
Activision has confirmed that the following cosmetic items will carry over from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone to Modern Warfare 3, except for when the items fall into the caveats described above:
- Weapon Charms, including Mastery Charms
- Weapon Stickers, including Decals
- Emblems
- Loading Screens
- Some Modern Warfare 2 Vehicle Skins, unless the vehicle is not present in MW3
- Calling Cards
- Weapons
- Attachments
- Blueprints
- Limited-Time Operators/Skins (as long as they were unlocked during the limited time)
- MW2 Operator Store Bundle Skins
Does Modern Warfare 3 Content "Carry Back" To Modern Warfare 2?
No. In a blog post, Activision confirmed that "There is no “carry back” from Modern Warfare III to Modern Warfare II." In short, no Modern Warfare 3 content will be playable in Modern Warfare 2. Players will, however, be able to bring Modern Warfare 2 content over to Modern Warfare 3 is they purchase MW2 after MW3.
