ARK Survival of the Fittest 2022: Release Date, Details, Crossplay & More

ARK Survival of the Fittest was a Battle Royal mode for ARK: Survival Evolved that was discontinued in 2016 due to the developers at Wildcard Studios wanting to focus more on the main game. It seemed like ARK Survival of the Fittest had gone the way of the dinosaurs, being rendered extinct. 

However, it was announced that the fossilized remains of ARK Survival of the Fittest will rise again as the game mode is set to make a comeback with all new mechanics. This article will cover ARK Survival of the Fittest's release date, gameplay features, crossplay details, and more!

ARK Survival of the Fittest Release Date

ARK Survival of the Fittest has a confirmed release date of December 2022. When in December 2022 has not yet been specified, but the developers have assured fans that the game will be released this year at the latest. Unfortunately, this is only true for PC, Xbox Series X / S, and PlayStation users. 

As usual, Nintendo Switch owners will have to wait a short while before receiving this updated game mode. Wildcard Studios said that Survival of the Fittest will be coming to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023. 

ARK Survival of the Fittest Gameplay Details

Very few details are known at this time regarding what the new and improved gameplay of ARK Survival of the Fittest will be like. However, we can expect most of the key elements to remain unchanged from the original game mode. Players will start on an ARK map, gathering supplies, taming dinosaurs, and equipping themselves with weapons. ARK Survival of the Fittest is much faster-paced than ARK: Survival Evolved. Gathering resources, crafting, taming dinosaurs, and leveling up are all much faster here to compensate for the time limit that comes with a Battle Royale. 

ARK Survival of the Fittest Crossplay

It has been confirmed that crossplay will be available for ARK Survival of the Fittest. This includes users playing on Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation, and PC. If ARK Survival of the Fittest follows the same pattern as ARK: Survival Evolved, PlayStation users can only crossplay between other PlayStation consoles (PS4/PS5). The same goes for Xbox users, who can only crossplay with a PC if the game was downloaded via the Microsoft Store. 

It is not yet known whether crossplay will be coming to Nintendo Switch when it receives the Battle Royale Mode in 2023, but it is likely that crossplay will be unavailable. Again, in ARK: Survival Evolved, crossplay is not available for Nintendo Switch, and Mac users, so don't expect ARK Survival of the Fittest to have such functionality either.
