Taking you undercover into the world of gaming

Well hello, I’m Julia, one of the Ginx presenters (*cough* watch GameFace Saturdays at 11pm on Challenge TV *cough*) and this is the first of many random blogs I’ll be writing the Ginx TV website. So, welcome! As with most new things, I’ve spent half the time I should have been doing this worrying about doing it and finding things to clean instead. In fact deadlines are perhaps the only time I ever clean my place. So this little corner of the internet shall be about my life as the First Lady of Ginx (I just made that up. Nobody calls me that. Not even ‘lady’. Well, maybe in an ironic way).

This week, well actually ever since January, has been a bit mad really. Ginx TV is all gearing up to launch and project itself upon the unsuspecting British public, so Ginx Towers has been in a state of organised chaos. Which makes a change from regular, boring, normal chaos. As of January I’m also the official the games gal for Metal Hammer magazine, which is great as it combines my two of my favourite things. Metal and gaming.

I got to interview N-Dubz the other week, as they have released a video made entirely on LittleBigPlanet 2 – which is a pretty cool thing to do. Anything that brings gaming to the mainstream is all good in my books. It’s funny, most people don’t call themselves gamers, and yet, most people play games. Which is a weird thing, it’s like a stigma. Which is one of the things I’m really happy to be part of in the Ginx TV MO, making gaming for all, whilst obviously not ignoring the hardcore gamers who’ve kept the torch going all these years.

I also had my birthday shindig and chose the only appropriate place to have it, The Trocadero! Yes, because I’m that mental. It’s actually the best place to go out in central London, as the bars are pretty empty and you’re surrounded by video games = win!!

I’ve been having lots of fun and interesting conversations with our new golden boy Will, who we stole from MTV (kidnapped might be more appropriate as we secretly all wanted to drive around in an A-Team style van and shout with balaclavas). We’ve been talking new shows for me which I can’t really go into too much detail about at the moment, but it’s all super exciting and I can’t wait.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the new channel up and running. So much work has gone into shaping it to be the best we can produce and it can only get better and better as time goes by. I feel proud to be part of a team who are so passionate, so fun to hang out with and who love to game. It’s like a dream job!

I think that’s enough waffle from me, for now. Until next time….

Lol, my name is Smokemare and I am a Gamer....

It's funny, but why should being a gamer sound like you are admitting being an alcoholic? How much do you have to game to be a gamer? What do you have to play to count?

If a guy drinks sixteen cans of super strength lager per day - he's clearly an alcoholic. If a guy plays 16 hours of Black Ops a day - he's clearly a gamer, but somewhere there is a line, a distinction between non-gamer and gamer. What about someone who sites with farmville open on their PC at work for 8 hours, then twiddles a bit more once they get home? Are they a gamer? What about someone who plays an hour night on a mixture of XBOX 360 games?

I think it's hard to define, but part of it is choosing to sit and play games over other social activities. Rather than those who fall back on gaming when they have nothing else to do.

Presume the new channel will be on all the digital platforms? When's the launch?
We've missed GameFace - just don't understand why Challenge stuck the show in a such a late slot?! Do they think gamers only come out at night?

Shame about the teething

Shame about the teething troubles on Challenge TV. Looking forward to seeing GameFace again. Been wondering if GameFace in its current form will be showing on Ginx TV channel, or will it be 'absorbed' into other shows?

Looking forward to the return

Looking forward to the return of Gameface. What happened last week? It got pulled at the last minute? But why?

Love the choice of The Trocadero for a birthday shindig. I remember spending whole afternoons in Segaworld there when I was a kid (I'm showing my age now lol).

Will look out for the show

Will look out for the show interested to see where Ginx goes although 11pm on a sat night on a channel noone watches it can only be uphill from there
