100 Thieves content creator and co-owner Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter was at the receiving end of significant backlash recently following the botched launch of her "scam" skincare line, RFLCT. This resulted after fans criticized the YouTube star for endorsing a product whose claims to protect against blue light were based on pseudoscience, claims many internet users branded "scientifically useless."
The resultant backlash has since tarnished the 100 Thieves streamer's brand and continues to spark anger among online community members. More recently, however, private Discord messages between Valkyrae and Twitch icon Ludwig Ahgren were leaked, where Valkyrae contends she wants to abandon the $4 million RFLCT contract.
Atrioc leaks Valkyrae's Discord DMs with Ludwig about RFLCT
Atrioc leaked the Discord messages between Ludwig and Valkyrae during a recent Twitch Livestream on 27th October.
"ULTA invested 4 million, so it's like... why wouldn't they make it legit. Why would a company like ULTA invest in something like this if they didn't also believe the research? They just don't understand how this ruins my brand if the research isn't public," Valkyrae said over several messages.
"I really needed it to be public. I'm so dumb. I should have asked more questions. I just thought it was obvious [the research] would be there," Valkyrae said before jokingly adding that she would just have to "embrace the scammer life, get out of the contract and admit [she] was an idiot."
Valkyrae remains hopeful that she will be able to leave the contract, citing: "apparently, I didn't sign one of the documents, so I have a bit of leverage."
The 100 Thieves co-owner continued, saying: "Right now, we have been going back and forth with PR and lawyers for a statement, and they are just trying to get me to say the dumbest sh*t. Like, 'while I will still be using RFLCT products, I hope nothing but the best for this passionate team.' I really messed up trusting these people."
We'll have to wait and see whether Valkyrae will be able to dig herself out of this mess as the backlash has yet to settle down.
